SANJAY 'RAYFLO' MUKHERJEE
PERSONALITY Adapting to his environment comes easy. Rayflo wears a three-thousand-dollar suit with the same ease he wears washed out jeans and a scuffed t-shirt, feels at home surrounded by people slurping piss in a flute as much as he does at a dingy pub where the drinks come in greasy glasses. He can fit in everywhere, has learnt all the social conventions, but he never feels like he belongs anywhere. It's hard for him to stay in one place. Looking over his shoulder metaphorically and literally all the time and keeping a packed bag close at hand have become a habit (or compulsion). Stagnation equals death and as such being a recruiter for Ghost suits him just fine, as it allows him to be constantly on the move.

No inhibitions, no limitations, no boundaries. Rayflo is one of those men who'll get a job done whatever it takes - stealing, maiming, burning, killing - but let that not be mistaken for mindless dedication or deep loyalty. While he is loyal to Ghost, he is first and foremost loyal to himself. His upbringing has deeply ingrained the desire to always strive for better, to never settle, to never grow complacent. As such he's always pushing himself that little bit further, working into the pain rather than shying away from it, and reaping the sweet reward of adrenaline rushing through his veins when he succeeds.

It might not be obvious at first glance but Rayflo isn't a very nice person. In a fight you'll want him beside you. If you're having personal issues, better find somebody else. Even if he saves someone from being taken by the authorities, it's not because he cares but because that's his job. Expecting him to check in or follow up on you will only lead to disappointment. Despite his powers or perhaps because of them, Rayflo doesn't generally care that much about people. He isn't sensitive or sentimental; he isn't understanding or a shoulder to cry on; he's the guy who'll tell you that everybody has problems, that yours aren't anything special, that instead of whining you should either find a solution or just move the fuck on. Whatever option you choose, kindly do it somewhere else because he has better things to do than listen to this shit.

Chasing after the next adrenaline rush for example. Pushing himself over the edge he's standing on face up. Finding a new object carrying memories to get lost in for hours. Getting into a good old-fashioned bare knuckle fight just to remind himself he still physically exists and hasn't lost himself in the swirling vortex of unbridled emotions and memories.
HISTORY Parents: Maya Mukherjee (mother, deceased), father unknown

Siblings: n/a

Being born into the Mukherjee family usually counted as good karma. They were one of the wealthiest families in Mumbai, respected and feared alike, involved in all kinds of business affairs. Sanjay, however, wasn't such a lucky boy. His mother foolishly fell for a pretty boy with pretty eyes, fell for his sweet lies about eloping and starting a new life together. Well, by the time Sanjay was born, the pretty boy was nowhere to be seen, and his mother had fallen from grace with the Mukherjee patriarch, disowned and shipped off to America to live with relatives there. Out of sight, out of mind, or so the Mumbai branch hoped.

Sanjay was eleven when his mother found another pretty man and got married this time, leaving her son behind with the relatives to start a new life with the new husband. Well, if they were going to raise somebody's bastard boy, they might as well put him to good use. The relatives were kind enough to send the boy to school and make sure he put something of substance into that pretty head of his lest he turn into his useless father and ruin a girl's life one day.

The vaccination changed everything. As soon as Sanjay noticed strange side-effects, he told his relatives. Three days later, he was on a flight back to Mumbai. After learning about the boy's development, the patriarch had a change of heart regarding Maya's bastard son. Old Mukherjee meticulously deconstructed the boy, stripped him down to his parts, threw out what he didn't like, and rebuilt this grandson into the man he wanted him to be one day.

Sanjay hated his grandfather with all his heart. A cruel, selfish old man who cared more about an ominous legacy than the flesh and blood he kept abusing on a daily basis. At the same time, the patriarch was the only person who wasn't afraid of Sanjay, not even once. There was only ever disappointment and disdain. Then one night, everything changed between them. The patriarch woke to a blade pressed hard enough against his throat to draw a thin line of blood. In the cold moonlight the old man looked his grandson in the eye and finally saw something that pleased him. The sense of his grandfather's pride engulfed Sanjay and nearly had him drop the razor.

At the age of 21 Sanjay Mukherjee was sent back to America to aide the Chicago branch of the family with the less legal side of business. It wasn't an ideal time to return to the US. Four years later, the Chicago branch of the Mukherjee family was dissolved and the 'healthy' members recalled to India. Sanjay was found half-dead on the border to Canada by a now deceased Ghost recruiter. At first the young man was hesitant to join but when it became obvious that his family had once again cut its ties with him, there really was no reason not to join these people.

So far Sanjay hasn't had reason to regret that decision. He gets along with the other members, always excels at his assignments, and is otherwise living the dream life. Or something close enough. At least he's free from the ambitions of an old man. His own ambitions, well.
POWERS

Strengths & Weaknesses

empathy: Rayflo can sense the emotions and feelings of people around him. When they're close enough, ideally there's some kind of physical contact, he can even manipulate those emotions, e.g. induce calm or fuel fears. Since this ability is always 'switched on', Rayflo is constantly subjected to strangers' emotions and there are times when he can't really differentiate whether what he's feeling originates from within or without. On some occasion he may or may not have just let himself get lost in the moodscapes of strangers and spent days just enjoying the ride.

psychometry: Rayflo can connect with inanimate objects if said objects have been crafted by human hands and carry a special meaning for their owner. Bits and pieces of memories – mainly emotions – become available to him, allowing him to experience those as if they were his own. He cannot, however, determine the original source of those emotions. It is impossible for him to touch something and say this belonged to so-and-so, but he can determine a time frame; i.e. when it was last in contact with its owner.

Like with his empathy, this is not a skill he can turn off and over the years he’s grown addicted to the rush the influx of a complete stranger’s emotions gives him (see the odd collection of objects he keeps at his place). He is usually careful about interacting with the world and avoids accidental physical contact with his environment because he doesn’t know what might send him into his happy place, and he'd rather the other don't find out about his little love affair with his powers.

illusion: The crown jewel so to speak, the skill Rayflo can and has spent hours upon hours learning to control. In conjunction with his other two powers he can conjure up an elaborate illusion encompassing all five senses. Want to be in the lavish halls of Versailles? Et voila! Suddenly finding yourself stuck in a swamp and slowly sinking into the murky waters? Greetings from the Ghost.

Since using this power requires a lot of energy, the duration depends on how elaborate the illusion is and on how many people are involved. If it's just one individual, the illusion can last up to 24 hours. The more people are involved, the quicker Rayflo is drained. What he does know is that currently he can maintain an illusion for about 3 hours for 10 people. How did he find out? Well, he tested it. And found himself unconscious for about five days afterwards.
APPEARANCE Rayflo keeps his hair short and shaves when he remembers. Standing at 6'3 his body type is toned from time at the gym as well as time spent fighting for fun. His wardrobe carries everything from comfy sweatpants to expensive suits, and there's always a splash of colour somewhere on him. The Ghost tattoo is in his left palm, the mark identifying him as a member of the Mukherjee family is located on the left side of his neck.
